Georgia Transmission is proud to celebrate Lineman Appreciation Day on April 10, a time to recognize and honor the vital work of our state’s linemen. These highly skilled professionals keep the power on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Numerous storms and tornadoes have swept across Georgia each month of 2023. Thousands of power outages were left in the wake of these damaging storms but thanks to the support of lineworkers throughout our state, Georgians were soon able to rely on the promise of light that comes with the flip of a switch.
For these and other extraordinary efforts, the April 10 celebration is the eighth annual Lineman Appreciation observance in Georgia. Resolutions introduced this year in both the Georgia House and Senate mark the occasion:
House Resolution 295 introduced by Representative Don Parsons (R-Marietta)
Senate Resolution 238 introduced by Senator Bill Cowsert (R-Athens)
We appreciate our state legislators’ support and recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by Georgia’s lineworkers.
You can also join us in the celebration of Lineman Appreciation Day. We invite you to express thanks and appreciation by sending social media messages to lineworkers using the hashtag #ThankALineman on April 10.
And every day, all Georgians can help protect linemen by following Georgia’s “pull over law.” The law requires drivers to leave an empty lane for law enforcement vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, and now utility workers attending an incident on or beside a road. Putting this law into practice helps protect linemen who often work in dangerous conditions.
You can also purchase “Thank a Lineman” license plates for your vehicles, with proceeds going to the Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America which helps burn patients and their families at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
Lineworkers are the backbone of our power grid. Their hard work and dedication keep our communities connected to power. At Georgia Transmission, we are proud to work with local EMCs and other industry partners to manage and protect Georgia’s dynamic power grid. We are grateful for the tireless work of linemen and invite you to join us in celebrating them on Lineman Appreciation Day.
