Georgia Transmission Donates AEDs to Pine Lake Police Department

Lifesaving donation commemorates National Heart Month and gratitude for decade-long partnership

TUCKER, Georgia (Feb. 18, 2025) — In commemoration of National Heart Month, Georgia Transmission donated three lifesaving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Pine Lake Police Department. The donation is also a gift of gratitude for a decade-long partnership. The head of corporate security for the not-for-profit electric cooperative completes his in-service training with the police department.

In the U.S., heart disease is the leading cause of death, and the seconds count when it comes to intervening when someone is experiencing a cardiac event. An AED is a device that provides an electric shock to the heart to help restore a normal rhythm. Studies show that a person’s chance of survival drops by 7 to 10% every minute a normal heartbeat is not restored.

Pine Lake Police Officers will now have these lifesaving devices in their patrol cars. “Our officers are typically the first to arrive at an emergency,” said Pine Lake Police Chief Sarai Y’hudah-Green. “While they are trained to provide CPR, they are now even better equipped to save lives during medical emergencies in our community thanks to Georgia Transmission.”

Lee Swann, security coordinator for Georgia Transmission, is no stranger to responding to emergencies.  Swann retired from the DeKalb County Police Department after 25 years of service and has more than 3100 hours of Georgia POST (Peace Officer’s Standards and Training) accredited training. He’s attended in-service training with the Pine Lake Police Department for 10 years. “It was during a recent CPR/AED training that I discovered the police vehicles were not equipped with portable defibrillators,” said Swann. “Safety is our top priority at Georgia Transmission and one of our cooperative principals is concern for the community, so we wanted to express our gratitude to these first responders in a meaningful way.”
