New Facility Offers Convenient Recycling

Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) donated an acre of land to Oconee County for a new Collection Center near the intersection of Carrithers School Road and Georgia Highway 53. “The Oconee County Board of Commissioners recognized that there was a need for a centrally located Collection Center in this area” said Oconee Chairman Melvin Davis. “We are grateful to GTC for providing the land for this facility.” Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission Executive Director Esther Porter added “The new center offers a very convenient way for residents to recycle. I would like to thank GTC for its support of our recycling program. “ “We make every effort to preserve and protect Georgia’s environment as we build and maintain a network of 3,000 miles of high-voltage power infrastructure” said GTC Project Manager Herb Payne. “This donation fits in well with our green initiatives”. The Collection Center moved from its previous location about a mile north of the new site. GTC will add landscaping to help screen the facility this winter.
